Music is an important element in strip culture, it’s what the girls dance to. We talk about music every night.

“Should I dance to my regular set?”

“What kind of music should I play for this crowd?”

“Do I look good dancing to that song?”

“Is this song strippable?”

“What song is that?”

“Why the hell is she playing my song?”

Quite often talking about favorite bands or songs or music genres is the topic many girls use as a favorite device to break the ice with their customers.

Being in clubs every day is how I find new music. It’s also the reason I start liking songs I otherwise wouldn’t. After a while certain songs become associated with certain girls in my mind. Hearing one of those songs can bring back memories of good times and girls I’ve known.

There’s just no getting around music in strip-culture.

As time goes by I hear certain songs over and over. Certain songs come into vogue. Some are popular for months or years others just a flash in the pan. Many of the songs are of course new songs. The girls like new songs and we hear the strippable ones alot. So much that for every day patrons like myself it can get played out very fast. But some songs get played long past played out to the point of torture. For instance, we all like Titty Dancer, the first thousand times it was played. Two years later those of us that were here when it first entered strip culture are liable to get dizzy or vomit if some newb does play it. It’s become a torture. Some songs just never get old. They don’t get over played. They just keep showing up over and over. Some bands never really the strip culture play list. When I first worked in a strip club in the early 1990s Nine Inch Nails was a new band and got lots of play. 20 years later I still hear NIN; original versions of classic and newer songs, re-mixes and mash-ups.

I’ve made it a habbit for the last couple of years that when I notice a song has become popular in the clubs here in Vegas I go home and add it to my Real Rhapsody playlist. At the end of each moth I save that list. In January I go back and make a new playlist for all the songs that were popular for the previous year. It’s sort of a musical look back at the year. You’ll hear songs that were very popular for a time, songs that still get played today, and songs that were resurrected.

To me this list is more than just a Top 100+ list for the year. It’s memories. It’s a walk across styles and cultures through time, all filtered through stripper lenses. I’ve shared these lists with stripper friends and they seem love them. They love talking about who or what these songs remind them of. They love rating the songs and debating if one or the other is even strippable.

Since we all enjoy this process so much I thought those of you that visit this site might like it too. If you don’t have rhapsody you can just click the link at the end of this post to listen to 25 of the songs for free. If you do have Rhapsody you can look the list up and listen to the entire thing yourself. You could also give it a good rating and see if we can get it up there on the charts. You can find the list in the Playlist Central section under Theme/Holiday Mixes, or just look for it by name, Live Nude Vegas 2010. Or if you want to listen to the music on your own ipod or another streaming service you can see the full list below.

Lastly, it should probably go without saying but this list is subjective since its based on clubs here in Vegas. But that doesn’t mean that I left off songs I didn’t like. There’s plenty of songs here I like alot and some I don’t like at all. Also since strip culture isn’t politically correct this list isn’t either. I use the explicit versions of all songs and I didn’t leave songs off because the genre, subject or language may be offensive.

Due to popular demand I’ve decided to post Episode 0. However, this was our Test / Pilot episode. This was never really meant to be heard. The sound quality is poor, due to lack of skill on my part as well as a somewhat different ensemble of recording equipment. It was really just a test to see if we could even produce an interesting podcast.

In the end what it really did for us was give me and Roxie a clear vision. We listened to this episode quite a few times and gleaned all sorts of critical information. We each individually listened to what we had recorded. Then we got together and compared notes. We tweaked the format a little, began thinking about how to be prepared without having a scripted show, critiqued our performances, and more sharply defined our individual roles. In my opinion, by Episode 3 we had all the basic ingredients. However, I still think Episode 9 is when we finally produced a show I feel was working well enough on all levels to be ready for the world. Since we settled in to our groove in Episode 9 iLapdance has continued to develop at a steady pace. Both our performance and certain technical aspects of the show continue to evolve and improve with every episode. But never has there been as big a change as there was between Episode 0 and Episode 1.

So I’m letting you know now, Episode 0 isn’t what I would consider a viable show. We lapse into pontificating and spend too much time on topics that would never make the cut now. Since we had never done an episode or even heard us talking on tape we had no idea how we would sound. We knew we thought we were interesting and funny in the club, but we hadn’t realized yet that for the sake of good entertainment we needed to define our roles and our format more clearly. We also needed to clean up the sound. Eventually it occurred to us that good editing would tighten the show up and give us space for asides, tangents, and us just good old fashioned play; which we could then use to produce Extras and Bloopers without compromising the main show.

Since Episode 0 really doesn’t work as a show and was never intended to be heard it really feels more like an Extras segment than an Episode to me now, and not a very good one at that. Even so, people still seem to want to hear it. If you’ve been following along on the site you’ll know that I also want as complete a record as possible of our work finished and available. So all things considered I decided to post Episode 0, in the Extras section. It’s there for the reasons I’ve just mentioned and one other. I only want this available to subscribers. iLapdance will be available from several different podcast sites, but never the bonus material. We leave all the bonus material for people who are interested enough to actually sign up on our site. It’s free to sign up, it just let’s us know you’re really interested.

So here it is, Episode 0, in all its inglorious infamy.

Roxie is back this week. This welcome back episode was somewhat different than previous shows. Like the girls in the club this week, Me and Roxie were in weird moods, we speculate as to why in the show. We’ve covered serious material before but this time we were more serious about it. Both of us were very passionate at different points, and serious all through the show. Even our jokes had edge to them. As a result there is a very good Extras episode but no bloopers. If you haven’t become a member yet, the Extras for this episode are a good reason to sign up. Free membership is another good reason. Enjoy the show, and the Return of a riled up Roxie.

On this episode of iLapdance I have a special guest co-host, Serenity. It took a little convincing but we’re old friends and she finally agreed to sit in for Roxie. She did a great job. It was really fun having her in the other seat. So fun in fact that sometimes I forgot we were doing a show. Serenity knows me very well and was around before I even dreamed up the idea of this podcast. It was an unusual experience for me having a different co-host, especially since Serenity is one of the few girls who has known me and my work for longer than Roxie.

Never fear, Roxie is still the regular ilapdance co-host. She will be back in the very next episode. Sometimes with the busy work, personal, and travel schedules we both have it’s tough for us to find a day we can both record. There was a rather lengthy recording gap here and I wanted to keep the show moving forward. So a fill in co-host was my solution. Just so you know, Roxie has always supported me finding someone to fill her seat if a time comes, as it did this July, where our schedules just couldn’t correlate.

There is no bloopers show for this episode. I think I’m going to leave that for just me and Roxie since we both like to laugh at ourselves and don’t mind sharing our mistakes with you.

In closing I want to say thank you to Serenity. And thanks to you, our audience, for stopping by and sitting with us. I hope you enjoy the change of pace.

This Episode really should have been called “Fuzzy Disclaimers and (bleep!)” Starting with this show I began to experiment with my new mic. I love the way it sounds, but it’s very sensitive. It picked up all kinds of background noise, which you can hear as kind of a fuzzy hiss any time the mic is open. After hearing the playback on this episode I went back to using the old mic for a while until I could figure out how to record without the hiss. However, as with Episode 6, I really want there to be a complete record of all the recording we did. So I just accepted that there will always be hiss on this episode and produced the show. Technical problems weren’t the only issues on this show.

For some reason both Roxie and I just let our mouths run away with us. In the Extras for this show Roxie talks about how sometimes she “just says whatever to shut them up.” She kinda did that on this show. Every once in a while she just popped out with what ever was in her head and totally didn’t think before she spoke. Very funny. Totally Roxie. Not necessarily usable on the show depending on what she says. She can say whatever she likes about stripping of course. On the other hand, if I know Roxie said something she doesn’t really believe just to move the show along or to be funny, and what she said doesn’t reflect what we truly stand for it will tend to be moved to the Extras or Bloopers. I love Roxie and I know that’s just how she is. In fact those of us that know her call it “Roxie just being Roxie”. Don’t get me wrong, part of what makes Roxie such a great co-host is that she doesn’t filter what she says. But since most people who hear this show won’t ever know Roxie I just leave the material that advances the story and makes the point in the main show and move the rest to the Extras. That way you really get two different shows. The main show that presents what we stand for to the public, and the Extras show that gives our subscribers more insight to us as people.

I on the other hand violated an actual rule. I just started using names without permission. What was wrong with me I don’t know. But it got to be really annoying and it wound up in the Extras.

If you aren’t a subscriber you should know that often the Extras are the most hilarious bits of the show. It’s free to subscribe, so if you want to hear more of us join us now.
