Roxie is back this week. This welcome back episode was somewhat different than previous shows. Like the girls in the club this week, Me and Roxie were in weird moods, we speculate as to why in the show. We’ve covered serious material before but this time we were more serious about it. Both of us were very passionate at different points, and serious all through the show. Even our jokes had edge to them. As a result there is a very good Extras episode but no bloopers. If you haven’t become a member yet, the Extras for this episode are a good reason to sign up. Free membership is another good reason. Enjoy the show, and the Return of a riled up Roxie.

On this episode of iLapdance I have a special guest co-host, Serenity. It took a little convincing but we’re old friends and she finally agreed to sit in for Roxie. She did a great job. It was really fun having her in the other seat. So fun in fact that sometimes I forgot we were doing a show. Serenity knows me very well and was around before I even dreamed up the idea of this podcast. It was an unusual experience for me having a different co-host, especially since Serenity is one of the few girls who has known me and my work for longer than Roxie.
Never fear, Roxie is still the regular ilapdance co-host. She will be back in the very next episode. Sometimes with the busy work, personal, and travel schedules we both have it’s tough for us to find a day we can both record. There was a rather lengthy recording gap here and I wanted to keep the show moving forward. So a fill in co-host was my solution. Just so you know, Roxie has always supported me finding someone to fill her seat if a time comes, as it did this July, where our schedules just couldn’t correlate.
There is no bloopers show for this episode. I think I’m going to leave that for just me and Roxie since we both like to laugh at ourselves and don’t mind sharing our mistakes with you.
In closing I want to say thank you to Serenity. And thanks to you, our audience, for stopping by and sitting with us. I hope you enjoy the change of pace.

This Episode really should have been called “Fuzzy Disclaimers and (bleep!)” Starting with this show I began to experiment with my new mic. I love the way it sounds, but it’s very sensitive. It picked up all kinds of background noise, which you can hear as kind of a fuzzy hiss any time the mic is open. After hearing the playback on this episode I went back to using the old mic for a while until I could figure out how to record without the hiss. However, as with Episode 6, I really want there to be a complete record of all the recording we did. So I just accepted that there will always be hiss on this episode and produced the show. Technical problems weren’t the only issues on this show.
For some reason both Roxie and I just let our mouths run away with us. In the Extras for this show Roxie talks about how sometimes she “just says whatever to shut them up.” She kinda did that on this show. Every once in a while she just popped out with what ever was in her head and totally didn’t think before she spoke. Very funny. Totally Roxie. Not necessarily usable on the show depending on what she says. She can say whatever she likes about stripping of course. On the other hand, if I know Roxie said something she doesn’t really believe just to move the show along or to be funny, and what she said doesn’t reflect what we truly stand for it will tend to be moved to the Extras or Bloopers. I love Roxie and I know that’s just how she is. In fact those of us that know her call it “Roxie just being Roxie”. Don’t get me wrong, part of what makes Roxie such a great co-host is that she doesn’t filter what she says. But since most people who hear this show won’t ever know Roxie I just leave the material that advances the story and makes the point in the main show and move the rest to the Extras. That way you really get two different shows. The main show that presents what we stand for to the public, and the Extras show that gives our subscribers more insight to us as people.
I on the other hand violated an actual rule. I just started using names without permission. What was wrong with me I don’t know. But it got to be really annoying and it wound up in the Extras.
If you aren’t a subscriber you should know that often the Extras are the most hilarious bits of the show. It’s free to subscribe, so if you want to hear more of us join us now.

Episode 10 is our shortest episode ever. Some of the funniest material wound up, for one reason or another, in the Extras. Since we really do record the actual content of the show with no scripts or rehearsal, sometimes we record something and don’t realize what we really have. The segue out of the Lapdance segment into the Hugs segment is a prefect example.
The Hugs section of the show is basically us signing off and doing the credits. That’s where we say goodnight to the listeners, our guests, and each-other. It’s also the section where we give out contact info, website info, and do our tag lines. So naturally, that’s one part of the show that we do have to write ahead of time and read. By the time we get to the Hugs the live performance part of the show is over. Sometimes before we read the Hugs me and Roxie are just talking, rarely about anything related to any of the show topics. On this show, as usual, that’s exactly what we did.
Somewhere during us just goofing off I must have realized I didn’t actually do a segue out of the segment. Normally, if I remember, I do the segue riffing off whatever topic we just talked about. In this case since I didn’t do it at the end of the actual performance intended for the show, but as an after thought while we were just being ourselves, I riffed off of us stripper talking instead of the segment topic. So you may be a little puzzled as to what we’re talking about if you listen to only the Episode. To get where we’re coming from you need to listen to the Bloopers segment I posted for this show.
I wish I could say that was a skillful way to manipulate people into becoming members of the site, but it wasn’t. It just happened that way because we work without nets. So to people who download this episode from a source other than iLapdance.org I apologize for the awkward transition. For those of you here I left the show as it is because a perfect opportunity presented itself to entice you to become a member. It’s free and you get access to lots of additional material. Hey it’s like a two for one, with free extras. Try and get that anywhere else in strip culture.

Episode 7 was originally recorded two weeks after episode 5, as would be normal. However, on the original website episode 6 was a “lost” episode for many months. Episode 6 was only released two weeks before this website, the permanent one, went online. Originally episode 5 was followed directly by episode 7. The result is that our oldest listeners may not even know there is an episode 6. You can see the previous post for an explanation. The show posted at the end of the show notes here is, and was always intended to be, Episode 7. As I’ve said before, we don’t script the show. Every episode comes from our real life day to day experiences. So while each show stands on its own, there are naturally some elements that make a better narrative if heard in their proper chronological context. For example, shows where there is a guest co-host tend to be done when Roxie is out of town or completely unavailable. So if you’re an old time listener, you may want to go back and listen to episode 6 then listen to this one again.
As we record more shows technical and other aspects of the show progress. My editing skill is evolving to the point where I could be obsessive and go back and re-edit all these old shows to sound better, both technically and in terms of pacing. The length of time it actually takes Roxie and I to get 30 – 40 min of usable material has steadily dropped from two rambling hours to one hour. As we have become better at doing what we do in front of the mic, the percentage of that hour of material that is usable has steadily increased.
Over time Roxie and I have become better at taking our every day conversation and formatting it for the show. We just agree ahead of time what topics to discuss and in what order. Then we just talk through our list with no rehearsal. What you hear is focused but unscripted, so there’s quite a bit of genuine surprise in every show on both our parts. In fact, we each purposely stop ourselves, and the other one, from telling a story or discussing a topic that seems like it would work good on the show off mic. As I was editing Episode 7 it became clear to me that, while it was best for our style of recording to record double the amount of talk we actually needed, most of what was being edited out for economy or time was actually usable. So I decided that it would be worth while to at least try and make a companion Extras segment out of each episode.
The extras segments are literally alternate shows made up of the out takes from the same original recording session as the episode to which it is a companion. Occasionally we know that something will be going straight to Extras. More often than not though, neither of us has any idea what will go where until I actually edit the material. In Extras you’ll hear some of our funniest or most outrageous moments. That’s only because we had so much good material that for one reason or another I had to make a decision between a clip going to the show or to the Extras. I take the material that tells the best narrative and/or makes the clearest point and use that for the official show. Anything else that is usable goes into the Extras segments. So if you like the show and want to hear the funnier bits that don’t fit the time or narrative, or you just wonder what else we had to say about something, it’s worth becoming a member of the site so you can listen to the Extras.
